“History owes an apology to the members of this community and their families, for the delay in providing redressal for the ignominy and ostracism that they have suffered through the centuries.”
-Supreme Court of India Ruling on Section 377, 6 September 2018

On 6 September 2018, the Supreme Court of India decriminalized homosexuality, after twenty-four years of struggle. Decriminalization was met with cheer and hope, celebrating the fact that LGBT people are no longer criminals in the eyes of the law.

As a founding member of the coalition Voices Against 377 (link to program page), CREA has worked for over 15 years to decriminalise homosexuality in India, giving a platform to lesbian women to advocate for their own rights at the national level alongside allies.
